RAF Lossiemouth

RAF Lossiemouth

RAF Lossiemouth is a £100M, 33,000sqm facility that will host Boeing’s P-8A Poseidon planes.

The project provided hanger space, cutting edge and extensive support facility, maintenance provisions and training areas, all housed in excess of 400 office and subdivided individual spaces

FES made extensive use of our Stirling digital engineering and prefabrication facility to help reduce project run-time, with multiple modules being designed and manufactured in Stirling then rapidly fitted on-site, allowing speedy progression through the build phases and reducing site numbers and risk.

FES building services installations, centred around a full BIM level 2 delivery model, included: LTHW, chilled water, domestic water, natural Gas, compressed air system ventilation plant, air conditioning, crac units, boilers, CHP plant, standby generators, HV switch gear, fire detection systems, gas extinguishing system, security CCTV, door-access system, extensive electrical switchgear, runway lighting and external lighting.

RAF Lossiemouth – HV Infrastructure

RAF Lossiemouth – HV Infrastructure

FES were appointed by the MOD to design, supply and install a new 11kv infrastructure and fibre network at RAF Lossiemouth including construction of a new relocated Intake Substation.

RAF Lossiemouth is a fully operational base. The base has 39nr 11kv Substations located throughout the base.

The scheme also consisted of excavating and reinstating a fully ducted system of 16km to incorporate the new 11kv cable and fibre network. All works were carried out throughout the base which was “fully operation”, during the construction.

FES works involved full co-ordination and operation of seamless electrical changeovers to accommodate the 39nr substation change overs. The integration of the 11kv and fibre was fully co-ordinated with the client and their Facilities Management contractor.

The project was completed on time with quality workmanship and minimum disruption to the “base” management operations, all whilst maintaining a safe working environment for all concerned.

Communications – BAE Systems Type 45 Destroyers

Communications – BAE Systems Type 45 Destroyers

The type 45 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyers are providing the backbone of the Royal Navy’s air defences for much of the first half of the 21st century.

They are able to engage a large number of targets simultaneously and defend aircraft carriers or groups of ships, such as an amphibious landing forces, against the strongest future threats from the air.

The blown optical fibre network that FES installed was specifically designed for the Type 45 to provide state-of-the-art systems from day one whilst allowing simple and rapid upgrades to ensure that the Type 45 can quickly deploy the most advanced technology in the future with no need for the major disruption associated with pulling in new fibre cables.
